When I was young, I gazed at the sky
With wonder in my curious eye
I sought to understand the world around
Questioning everything I found
I played alone, creating stories in my mind
A funny, secretive, introverted kind
I longed to protect and save the world
And to be the difference, my dreams unfurled
I debated with adults, my peers misunderstood
I craved knowledge, seeking what was good
Bored at school, I learned fast on my own
Obsessed with time, watching clocks as they shone
I was called a diva, a general too
Clean and orderly, that was my view
But deep down, I was a free spirit, unique
A bird that needed to fly and seek
I didn’t want to appear too smart
Preferring to keep that part hidden,
waiting for those who’d see
The real me, wild and free
I’m grateful to my parents, who let me soar
To be the person I was meant for
They gave me space to dream and debate
And to be the person I create
So here I am, a mixture of all
The young girl who stood tall
A rebel with a cause, always true
The world may not understand, but I do.
